Sample Restorative Conversation between Teacher and Student – 1

Teacher: Hi, can we talk for a moment?

Student: Sure, what’s up?

Teacher: I noticed your grades have been slipping lately, and I just wanted to check in and see if everything is okay.

Student: Yeah, I’ve been going through some personal stuff, and it’s been affecting my school work.

Teacher: I understand. Is there anything I can do to help or support you?

Student: I think knowing that you care and are willing to help enough. But I’ll let you know if I need anything.

Teacher: Of course. And know that I’m here for you, and we can work through this together. In the meantime, let’s devise a plan to get your grades back on track. Maybe set some goals for yourself, or set up a study schedule.

Student: That sounds like a good idea. I’ll definitely work on that.

Teacher: Great. And remember, if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to come to talk to me.

Student: Thanks, I appreciate it.

Teacher: Hi, can I speak with you for a moment?

Student: Sure, what’s up?

Teacher: I noticed in class today that you seemed disengaged and not participating as much as usual. Is everything okay?

Student: Yeah, I’ve just been stressed and overwhelmed with everything.

Teacher: I understand. It’s essential to take care of ourselves, both mentally and physically. Is there anything specific that’s been causing you stress?

Student: There is a lot of personal stuff at home and with friends. It’s been hard to focus on schoolwork.

Teacher: I’m here to support you. Have you spoken to anyone about this? Your counselor or a trusted adult?

Student: Not yet, but I’ll think about it.

Teacher: That’s a good idea. In the meantime, if there’s anything I can do to help in class, please let me know.

Student: I appreciate it, thank you.

Teacher: Of course. Remember, asking for help and taking time for yourself is okay. We’ll get through this together.

Teacher: Hey, can we talk for a moment?

Student: Sure, what’s up?

Teacher: I noticed you were on your phone during class today and not paying attention. Is everything okay?

Student: Yeah, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be disrespectful.

Teacher: It’s alright. I want to ensure everything is okay. Is there something going on that’s causing you to be distracted?

Student: It’s just that I received some bad news about a family member, and I couldn’t help but check for updates.

Teacher: I understand. It’s natural to be worried about loved ones. Is there anything I can do to help?

Student: Not really, just giving me permission to step out if I need to check on them during class.

Teacher: Of course. Please do let me know if you need to step out. And if you need to talk about anything, my door is always open.

Student: Thanks, I appreciate it.

Teacher: No problem. Just remember, we’re here to support you. Let’s try to focus on class now, and we’ll check in again later.
